 On Christmas day in 1958 Rickey Nelson Henley was born. Rickey's dad left when he was two. Mom remarried Paul Henderson and the family took his last name. While in high school Rickey received scholarship offers to play football. In 1976 he was drafted by the Oakland A's. He made is Major League debut in 1979. In his first game he went 2 for 4 and had a stolen base. He stole 100 bases that season which was an AL record. 1982 he went on to break the all time base stealing record. He stole 130 bases.

 In 1985 the A's traded Henderson to the Yankees. Again he led the league in stolen bases. He did the same thing the following year. In 1991 Henderson stole his 939th base to become the stolen base leader of all time.
