1970's Baseball Bats

1970s Baseball Bats

A major development in baseball bats occurred in 1970 when the Worth company introduced aluminum baseball bats to the game for the first time. These aluminum bats were popular with serious players nationwide as well as the everyday sports fan. The only group the aluminum bats were not popular with in the 1970's was Major League Baseball who refused to allow the bats to be used due to competitive and safety reasons.

For sports purists who collect wooden baseball bats the refusal of Major League Baseball to use aluminum bats is a blessing. Nothing has the patina and character of a real wooden bat. The most collectible bats from the 1970's are the ones in excellent condition made out of real wood.
